St Patrick's Day
St Patrick’s Day – the Irish national holiday – and probably the single greatest marketing event every created by a country. There are over 70 million Irish diaspora and people with Irish roots are scattered all over the globe. But what is St Patrick’s Day like in Dublin, it’s spiritual home? Dublin is a now a modern multicultural city, a million miles from the rundown and insular place it was in the 1980’s. Probably the single biggest benefit European Union membership has brought to our city is the influx of people from different countries and cultures moving to make a life here. The city is better because of it. In the 1980’s the parade was relatively tame. Those attending came from mass, wearing a sprig of blessed shamrock. Let us just say it is different now (and in a good way) (Images made in 2016)
